At the age of 34, Huỳnh Ngọc Mẫn is facing one of the most difficult periods of her life. After going through a high-risk delivery of twin babies, she is now battling heart failure and several serious complications. Behind her, two newborn sons are waiting for their mother and still need her care.

On May 2, 2026, while carrying twins, Mẫn suddenly experienced severe difficulty breathing and was admitted to Tu Du Hospital. According to the assistance request issued by Cho Ray Hospital, she was approximately 35 weeks pregnant and underwent a cesarean section. In the personal statement she submitted to local authorities, Mẫn also reported that she gave birth when the pregnancy was around 33 weeks and 6 days. The two baby boys were born weighing approximately 2,100 grams and 2,000 grams respectively.

But just as the joy of welcoming her two children began, the young mother’s condition became critical. According to Mẫn’s account, she developed complications following the cesarean section, including pulmonary embolism and heart failure. Her condition worsened, requiring her to be transferred from Tu Du Hospital to Cho Ray Hospital for further treatment.

Cho Ray Hospital’s records indicate that Mẫn is being treated at the Department of Cardiology for heart failure, suspected peripartum cardiomyopathy, acute kidney injury, pneumonia, and postoperative complications following the cesarean section. She is receiving intensive treatment and antibiotics.

While their mother remains in the hospital, the two newborn boys also require continued care at Tu Du Hospital. A mother who has just given birth but cannot yet hold her babies in her arms; a family that has just welcomed two new members but must immediately face overwhelming medical expenses — this is the difficult reality Mẫn’s family is experiencing.

Before falling ill, Mẫn worked as a casual worker at food establishments to make a living. Her employment was unstable, with no formal labor contract, and according to the family’s hardship confirmation, she did not have health insurance. Her monthly income was approximately VND 7 million. This was also an important source of income for supporting her family.

Mẫn’s family was already struggling financially. She was living in rented accommodation in Ho Chi Minh City. Her husband had left and could no longer be contacted. Her elderly parents made a living by selling lottery tickets. When their daughter was hospitalized in critical condition, the family was left with very few resources to rely on.

To pay for Mẫn’s medical treatment, the family had to borrow money and make advance payments totaling nearly VND 100 million. For a family surviving on unstable and modest incomes, this has become an enormous financial burden. After exhausting their ability to borrow, the family is no longer able to cover the continuing costs of her treatment.

According to the proposal from the Social Work Department of Cho Ray Hospital, Mẫn’s estimated medical expenses for the next stage of treatment are approximately VND 60 million. The hospital is seeking financial support so that the young mother can continue receiving treatment, overcome this critical period, and have the opportunity to return to her two young sons.

What Mẫn needs now is not simply financial assistance to pay for medical treatment. It is also a chance for a mother to continue being there for the two children who have only just entered the world.

Behind the medical bills and financial figures is a family desperately trying to hold on to hope. There is an elderly mother who still has to make a living selling lottery tickets. There are two newborn babies who need care. And there is a young mother fighting day by day for the chance to recover and return to her children.

The road ahead for Huỳnh Ngọc Mẫn remains difficult. Yet amid days filled with illness, debt, and helplessness, there is still something she and her family can hold on to: the hope that one day, this mother will be discharged from the hospital, return home, and finally be able to hold her two sons peacefully in her arms.

The support of the community, whether large or small, can become part of the journey that helps this mother continue her treatment and hold on to the chance of being reunited with her children.

As long as a mother still has hope, two little children still have a home to wait for.
